I got tricked in New York city by some very deceitful folks, and you know how they have these guys with the little table, and they have cards in hand, and typically three cards, and they’ll show you the ACE, and then they’ll start tossing some cards out. And then they’ll say, okay, where’s that ACE?

So you see them throw the first card over here and then the other. You follow, and you pick this card and think that’s the ACE, but that’s never the ACE. See what happens is the ACE is at the bottom, but when they throw the card, the card on top goes over here, and you think it’s the Ace, but they’re holding the ACE, and he dropped the ACE in the middle. And see, while you are watching that card, you’re not seeing how he’s holding the cards in his hand. He used a sleight of hand to draw our attention away from what was really happening.

It’s called perception versus reality or perception science. It says our perception of reality creates assumptions based on our biases. Our brains unconsciously bend our perception of reality to meet our desires or expectation, and our brains fill in the gap. Now, many people’s perception is all police officers are bad. We are using our past experiences.

Our assumptions are based on our biases. So our solution is to defund the police department. I looked up how many folks wanted that to occur and discovered that 80% of people in the black neighborhoods don’t want any part of that. Wonder why. And then here’s something else.

The average death of all police officers is 39 years old. The FBI stats show that 73 officers were feloniously killed in the line of duty in 2021; half didn’t engage their assailant. For instance, 39-year-old Keona Holly was sitting in her parked police car, going over the day’s activities, and a guy in Baltimore walked up and shot her in her head – at 39.

Why would someone do that? And why would a police officer take his knee and put it on the neck of a man he already has in handcuffs. Why would someone walk into a school and shoot kids or innocent bystanders on the street? Why?

The response is primarily in two camps; the media and politicians want to defund the police, and others say to abolish certain kinds of guns. But they’re only telling us something (like a magician) t0o draw our attention away from the real issue.

Without Christ, the real issue is that people’s hearts are desperately sick. If the politicians and the media said that, they would lose sponsors on TV, and politicians wouldn’t get re-elected because there’ll be pointing the finger at people and exposing the fact that you got to have Jesus Christ. They don’t want to do that!

Let me show you what the problem is. It starts right here in Mark 7:21. From within a person’s heart comes evil thoughts, sexual immorality, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, slander, pride, and foolishness. Why do people murder? Because Christ is not in their hearts.

The heart of the matter is a matter of the heart.
